When we think about a latte, we picture a warm mug with intense flavors, frothy textures, and aromas, but you’ll find types of latte drinks that don’t fit this criterion. Latte today can be floral too. Yes, you got that right. The rose latte has a floral flavor, gaining slow but steady popularity. Although it is called a latte, the drink has no coffee. It’s the perfect floral drink for relaxing nights.

Need to know what a rose latte is? Or how to make a cup?

Read on, and we’ll tell you how you can bring the floral flavor of this coffee to your home.

What Makes a Rose Latte So Good?

A cup of rose latte is a literal powerhouse of a drink. Apart from its aesthetic appeal—it does have a gorgeous pink color—the rose latte is full of benefits for the body. Rose petals contain beneficial compounds with antioxidant properties and vitamins A, C, E, and calcium

Floral tastes aren’t just a thing with tea anymore. You can find these flavors here too. If that isn’t reason enough to love this floral concoction, it also has a different flavor profile than a regular latte. Its light and floral taste is the perfect fit for people that shy away from bitter flavors. The only caution here is the sugar content. Our rose latte recipe uses maple syrup and beetroot powder, which are high in sugar, so use these ingredients cautiously.

Finally, the rose latte is a beautiful drink that is extremely easy to make. Talk about a two-in-one combo. Stunning, healthy, and easy to make? Sign us up for this one.

How to Make a Rose Latte?

Unlike a regular latte, the rose latte doesn’t have coffee. Instead, it infuses water with rose petals before topping it with frothed milk. If you’re thinking of making this drink at home, here’s our favorite rose latte recipe.

Step 1: Steep Your Petals

In a saucepan, add your water and bring it to a boil. Once it comes to a rolling boil, add one tablespoon of rose petals( keep the other ½ tbs aside) and bring the heat down. You want to let the rose petals steep in the water at a low temperature until they lose color. This should take you about 5 minutes. Once the rose petals are done steeping, strain the liquid and discard the petals.

Step 2: Sweeten Your Latte

Add a tablespoon of maple syrup to your rose petal extract and stir until it is dissolved. You can adjust the quantity of maple syrup according to your taste.

Step 3: Froth Your Milk

In a separate saucepan, heat your milk until it comes to a boil. Then you can use a handheld or machine mixer to froth the milk to your desired consistency.

Step 4: Prepare your Garnish

Take the rest of your dry rose petals (the ½ tbs we had set aside) and chop them into small pieces with a knife. Then set those aside while you assemble your latte.

Step 5: Assemble Your Latte

First, add your rose petal extract to a cup and then top it with your frothed milk. Finally, add your chopped rose petals to the top as a garnish. With that, you’re all done. Now sit down and enjoy.

You can make your homemade rose simple syrup with sugar and rose water for an extra special touch. If you’re feeling adventurous, add some vanilla rooibos tea for a unique twist!

No matter what type of rose latte you decide on, one thing is certain: you won’t be disappointed! So why not explore a few delicious variations of this beloved drink?

Rose Petals

Our rose latte recipe uses dried rose petals because they are readily available and easier to work with. However, you can use fresh rose petals for the recipe too. Instead of 1 tablespoon of dried rose petals, you’ll need to add ¾ cup of fresh rose petals to the water to steep. Fresh rose petals are weaker than dried ones and release less color, aroma, and flavor.

⚠️ WARNING: Whether you’re using dry or fresh rose petals for this recipe, don’t purchase them from the florist. The florists’ flowers are full of pesticides, making them unsuitable for consumption.

Maple Syrup

We’ve used maple syrup for our drink. However, you can substitute it for caramel, sugar, or other sweeteners. Just be sure to adjust the amount of sweetener depending on its strength.

Beetroot Powder

Beetroot powder is used in this recipe to give the latte its signature pink color. You can skip that step, but the latte will appear pale pink instead. The rose petal extract is light pink, so the milk will wash out mostly. You’ll miss out on beetroot’s many benefits besides the pale color.

To prevent that, you can use beetroot juice, but you’ll need to reduce the amount to avoid having a vegetable-type taste in your latte.

How to Store Rose Latte?

The easiest way to store rose latte is to store the steeped rose mixture. When you feel like drinking the latte, mix the steeped mixture with frothed milk. You can keep that mixture in an airtight bottle in the fridge for up to 4 days.

However, the above method will only work for a cold latte. You won’t be able to heat the rose syrup without losing all its flavor. If you want a hot latte, you’ll have to store dry rose petals and steep them whenever you want a cup.

Are you ready to try your homemade rose latte?

Rose Latte is a mixture of sweet, floral flavors and the richness milk provides. However, although a traditional latte is made using espresso, the rose latte has no coffee or caffeine. If you want a floral latte with espresso, you can try out our recipe for the best honey lavender latte instead.

Whether you go for the rose latte or choose another option, these floral coffee drinks are definitely delicious. However, they aren’t for everybody. Most people still like the strong taste and aroma we associate with traditional coffee. Floral drinks are gaining popularity, and it seems like the trend is here to stay.
